Education-Based Farming

Nurturing Natural Connections

Homesteading & Permaculture

Our farming co-op is an education-based working farm operating within the principles of permaculture, regenerative agriculture and holistic management. While following the natural rhythms of our ecosystem, we teach enrichment program participants how to take actions that augment the landscape and nurture the natural connections between plants, soil, water, animals and people.

Together, with the kids, families and individuals in our enrichment programs, we produce food for the Mad River Food Shelf and our community programs. We also support a number of farming enterprises run by our residents, partners, enrichment program participants and volunteers.

– Nick Gordon, Teacher, Farm to School Program

I was surprised how all the students wanted to taste EVERYTHING – from kale to beets to carrots to rye seeds.

– Teacher on Field Trip

The field trip was in a beautiful environment, run by kind and supportive teachers. The students learned a lot and loved picking veggies, caring for chickens, and making healthy food!

– Teacher on Field Trip

This was one of the most engaging and informative field trips I've had the privilege of organizing. I cannot recommend Living Tree enough to fellow educators.
