VTeen is a state wide program that offers expanded opportunities for teen connection, leadership, friendships and creative Jewish experience.

This is a program of Jewish Communities of Vermont:  coordinated by Living Tree Alliance Staff and generously made possible through support from the Harold Grinspoon Foundation.

 

 

Immersive Shabbat Experiences plus leadership building throughout the year

April 5 - 7 - Teen Retreat at Vermont Jewish Community Summit

Kilington, Vermont

Join other teens throughout the state as we Build Community together and learn leadership skills.

We have two condos reserved for teens. We will share a Shabbat gathering, swim in heated pools, hike, engage in a scavenger hunt, and explore Jewish identity amongst community building.

Friday April 5

Check-in at the condol 3 PM

3 PM - ARRIVAL and Check-in and unpacking

Cooking preparations for Shabbat - Braid Challah, make cookies and salads for Shabbat

4:pm - WELCOME and Community Building Games

Expectations of Weekend and Shabbat

5pm -  Shabbat Preparations - more cooking and getting ready

5:45pm - head over to Woodstock congregation for Teen Led service and Teen Potluck at Rabbi’s House

6:30 pm - Teen Led Shabbat Service

followed by teen potluck dinner at Rabbi Haigh’s house

Night Woodstock Scavenger Hunt

10 pm - back to the condos.  Board Games, Cards, Hanging Out

11:45 pm - Good Night!

Saturday Morning

9:30 am - Breakfast  in the condo - optional

10 am - Prayerful Singing with Rabbi David  - OR Sleep-in / contemplative activities in condo/ free time

10:45 am - Active Torah learning for Teens -  related to Shabbat and Weekly Parsha - this will not be your typical review of text - its engaging - active - and stimulating  

- Free Time

12:15 pm -  Lunch - at the condo!   Kiddush/ singing/ sharing around the table

1:00 pm -  Shabbat Free Time (Napping, Schmoozing, Hiking, Games,  Swimming…)

3 pm - Outdoor Activity - exploring on the mountain

5:30 pm - Pizza Dinner at the condo

6:30 pm Havdalah - Led by Rabbi Jan with the whole community

7:00 pm - Rosh Chodesh Singing  OR Jewish identity Discussion/ create video interviews together

9 PM Film - Movie  and Popcorn at the Condo

Past Gatherings:

September 22- 23 - Campout, Maimonades Cafe, and Natural Build at Living Tree Alliance, Moretown, VT

Saturday 4 - 6 pm: Family discussions about Jewish concepts of Joy with food and song under the tent at Living Tree Alliance. Teens stay for a camp out in our beautiful forests.  Maimonades Cafe facilitated by Harwood teacher, Kathy Caldwell.  

Sunday 9 am - 3 pm: Natural Building Workshop
Together we will build and decorate a Sukkah! Teens will learn to use tools, work together as a team and explore the concepts of Sukkot.

November 30 - December 1 

We will gather to celebrate Shabbat (day of rest), and engage in the drama of the Chanukah story, learning the ways the story informs activism today.   Join us in learning how to be the leaders of change in this world.
